Kelsey Quote

Regarding TobyMac, "A lot of his music is just too "Yo, Dude"-y-ish for me.

Yo, Dude-y-ish describes some of his music pretty well, I'd say :).

A Splurge

A shopper I am not.
Groceries, I buy lots of groceries. Toilet paper, too, and occasionally a pair of pointe shoes. There is a great (read "cheap") Salvation Army-type place nearby that we check periodically. We have been blessed with many, wonderful, much appreciated hand-me-downs.
But new clothes? On impulse? Just for fun? At a regular store? At full price?
I don't do it.
But today I did.
I love these shirts.
We happened upon them while on an errand for something else. They are cute.  And nice colors. They fit nicely. Keegan is very into sportswear right now and wears exercise type clothes pretty much every day, so I know she will get a lot of use out of hers. They are made by Under Armor (without the little symbol,) so I know the quality is good.
But none of those reasons are why I bought them.
What I really loved were these things -
1) Some players in the NBA requested something along these lines. That is why the company first made them. A pretty cool way for pro athletes to act.
2) There are so many clothing items that I would not want or allow my girls to wear. I am happy to send the message that modest, positive clothes are going to make more profit than skimpy, inappropriate items..
3) This is a big one for me - Ordinarily I'm not a fan of little sayings on shirts, but I love the message, the truth, printed on these. Girls are constantly bombarded with images and messages telling them they need to look a certain way - that they are not skinny enough, pretty enough, tan enough, whatever enough - that they just don't measure up. I love for that message to be countered with the truth. No preaching, no lectures, just the flat out truth, right there to be seen. That each one IS already enough, that she is fearfully and wonderfully made. To have this on athletic shirts seems especially appropriate.
It struck something in me and I was happy to pay full price for this purchase. Keegan and Kelsey reaped the benefits, got to choose a color, and were very happy, too. I'm sure the company was happy to have the dollars. Win-win-win, I'd say :).

Reunion

Have you ever known people that everyone can't help but love?
~Loving, generous, giving, fun, some of the sweetest people ever~
We were blessed to go to church with some people like that for the last several years, until we moved.

Miss Libby and Mr. Mikey taught each of the girls Sunday School at different times.
They are WONDERFUL.
They took such an interest in and showed such love to our girls, adopted them just like family.
They came to shows, were involved in everything at church, had the girls to their house, and anything else nice you can think of.
The girls absolutely adored them both.

We were so sad to move away from them.
A couple of weeks ago, we got a chance to visit. Hooray!
So thankful for the special people we've had in our lives!

A Rather Unusual Day

One recent cool, clear Saturday, Keegan and Kelsey were ready for their ball games. A little before we left to pick up a friend, it began to snow.

When we arrived to pick up the girls' friend, less than half a mile from the house, it was snowing so hard that I could hardly see to drive. We received a text saying that all ball games the rest of the day were cancelled. Our friend returned to her parents and we returned home to this -

What a difference 30 minutes makes!
And what a fun weekend surprise :)!

Kelsey Quote

Watching the men's basketball team going into their 4th overtime, "This. Is. Stressful."

Let's go, D!

In basketball, Kelsey is a very strong defensive player. She is not intimidated, even if the other player is larger than she is.

And she NEVER makes it easy for the other team to throw in the ball. :)

Goooooooooo, Kelsey!

Caitlyn Quote

Seems like Kelsey says funny things every day, but I rarely get to post Caitlyn quotes :).

Caitlyn was standing en pointe in the hallway and happily commented, "Look, these jeans are just the right length to wear with pointe shoes."

<Smile> Only Caitlyn.

Kelsey Quote

Kelsey, in Bill's car, "What's that smell?"

Bill, "It's just stuffy in here."

Kelsey, "Hmmm, who knew that stuffy had a smell?"

Kelsey Quote

Caitlyn, "I do know that at one point I was doing my crunches incorrectly."
Me, "It is easier to do them incorrectly than correctly."
Kelsey, "What? It is just squishing down your belly button?"

Keegan's Sketches

Keegan really enjoys drawing and this last year has gotten even more interested in trying different materials and styles. She has enjoyed and learned from several different books.
Recently, she came upon this series at the library and it has made a huge difference in specific things she is drawing.

I thought the bodies on these athletes looked so realistic!
The gymnast is my favorite.

She asked me to mention that she hasn't worked on her faces yet :).

This book helped her do a great job! Very cool.

Multi-talented girl

Kelsey has a book that tells how to make balloon animals.
She had enjoyed it before, but ran out of the long, skinny balloons it required. We recently got some more and she has been busy using them.
On your left is a teddy bear holding a flower. On your right is a yellow elephant.
I'm pretty impressed :).

More b-ball

Keegan's and Kelsey's basketball games were snowed out this weekend (to the girls' chagrin, and mine, too, although I was relieved not to drive in the snow!)
Keegan is still waiting, but Kelsey has already had her make-up game.

Keegan, the scorekeeper/statistician.
If you live around G'ville, you should recognize the Carnival shirt. Keegan loves hers. She wears it at least once a week. :)
They cracked me up, each so determined to get her arm in front of the next girl.

<-- Ready to receive
A little meeting with the coaches -->

It was a fun, close game.  The other team had a close friend, which is always fun. Also, these teams were pretty closely matched, keeping the game interesting throughout.

As if the make-up game wasn't enough...  Kelsey, Keegan, and some other kids played a  pick up game afterwards

Orange #2 there is the good friend whom Kelsey's team played. I guess she didn't get enough during the game, either :).

Hoping Keegan will get to make up her game, too!

A Typical Night

Virtually every night this otherwise intelligent teen-ager very dedicated ballerina puts a blanket on the floor and starts stretching and exercising.
That lasts about ten second before the dog comes, sticking her nose in Caitlyn's face and wanting to be petted. Caitlyn patiently pushes away the dog with a foot or hand, whichever is closer :).
The cat then brings her a toy, wanting to play fetch. Caitlyn gamely gives the toy a toss.
The cat returns the toy, eager to play some more. The dog then realizes that the cat is receiving attention and becomes ever more determined to fit onto Caitlyn's lap. And push away the cat at the same time.
Caitlyn pets that cat and again pushes away the dog. We all reach a certain level of frustration.
Finally, Mom intervenes and the dog is put on a leash and held where she can not reach Caitlyn (who usually continues to play with the cat) until finally - success! An exercise!
You can see the pitiful head of the dog who is as far as the leash will let her go, still trying to join in the fun.
Poor girl. With all these distractions, it's a wonder she can do a split at all!
Just a typical night!

Wordless Wednesday - A Typical Sight

Well, almost wordless :). This is also excessively typical for Caitlyn. She just didn't happen to be in the room when I had my camera out that day :)

Keegan Quote - Typical Keegy Conversation

"You don't want to meet up with a barracuda. They can be up to ten feet long and they can swim twenty-five miles an hour. So, especially if it's hungry, you don't want to meet one."

She's right. I don't.

Kelsey Quote

Kelsey and I occasionally play Family Feud on Facebook.  Recently the survey question was, "Name someone you would not want to see you naked." She promptly and emphatically responded, "Anyone!"
Good girl :).
