School Days

Not long ago, Caitlyn, Keegan, and Kelsey had the chance to spend the day in a one room schoolhouse, experiencing a school day from the 1890's.  Caitlyn actually went to be a helper, but got to participate, too.
The girls sat on one side of the classroom, the boys on the other in old fashioned desks. They children raised their hands and stood to speak to "Schoolmarm Miller,"

They wrote on slates, used quill pens, played with hoops and sticks, and followed an actual day's schedule from the superintendent's journal from this school in the 1800's.

At the end of the day, they all lined up for a spelling bee.

It's awfully neat.  The schoolhouse was a genuine one-room schoolhouse for many years. After being abandoned, it was moved and preserved specifically for this purpose. The girls have gotten to go a couple of times and I think it is an awesome way to learn history!  Who wouldn't want to play Laura Ingalls for the day????
